5 Summer Gardening Tips

Get Your Garden to Thriving!

5 ways to get the most out of your garden this Summer.

6 hot interior trends (19)

The hot days, spontaneous BBQs and sunbathing are what Summer is all about, BUT don’t forget to take care of your garden. Whether you are a keen gardener or not, isn’t it nicer to be able to sunbathe in a garden that is green and full of life rather than being surrounded by dead leaves and rotting twigs? Make the most of the season and stay protected!

1. Water

It might seem obvious but watering is crucial over summer. Especially for pots and beds. It is best to water first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. This avoids damaging the plants and keeps them hydrated in the summer sun.

2. Mulch

What is Mulching? Mulches are loose coverings or sheets of material placed on the surface of cultivated soil. Mulches can be applied to bare soil or to cover the surface of compost in containers. It is a great way to keep soil cool and helps stop water evaporating which is very handy if you are going away this Summer.

3. Lengthier lawn

Have you ever thought about growing your lawn that little bit longer? Well it is actually healthier for you to do that! It helps avoid heat stress. If the grass is cut too short the ground is exposed to the sun causing it to dry out quicker. To get that gorgeous green lawn, regularly feed it with an organic lawn food and water it. This will then be perfect for your picnics.

4. Protect potted plants

Don’t forget about the little potted plants! Water them frequently, wipe the leaves to keep them clean and healthy. On those really scorching hot days, it would be beneficial to move the outdoor pots into the shade; This avoids any burning of the leaves. Going on holiday? Pop your indoor plants in your bath or sink with a small amount of water to keep them well hydrated.

5. Give a little extra love

If the plants are looking a little leap and forlorn from the heat, apply some liquid seaweed in your water. This gives them the boost they need. It is also a great addition to your gardening kit and will help give your plants that extra love during the summer season. Get the children involved, if you have children or grandchildren around, this could be something they could do for you, children love watering plants!
