7 Tricks For Small Spaces

7 Tricks For Small Spaces

Small spaces can be the bane of any flat or home owners life, here are our easy tricks to make small spaces feel so much bigger.

6 hot interior trends (25)

1. Tricks with Colour… Paint it all White!

There are plenty of tricks you can do to enhance the size of the rooms in a house. White is one of them! White has reflective qualities that open up a room making it feel light and bright. If you paint the walls AND ceilings it will make the ceilings seem higher, making an illusion of a bigger room.

2. Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Time to reflect… If you want to make your room look bigger then mirrors are the perfect decorating item to purchase. They bounce light into the rooms and create an airy spacious feeling. Over all you will be gaining a new decorating piece for your home but also a statement piece that creates another illusion of a bigger space. Placing the mirror across from the window is the best way to reflect light into the room

3. Get Yourself Organised

If you have a small home you will know that any bit of “stuff” can look like you are a hoarder. Getting rid of clutter is an obvious solution to making small spaces feel bigger. But it isn’t always as easy as that, especially if you need everything you own! Our solution for this is to get yourself organised. Organise your objects and books onto open shelves, invest in clever storage furniture and you will create a streamlined look in your home with less of the clutter. If you really want to organise yourself why not organise your “stuff” in size or colour type, anything that makes a group of smaller items look intentionally arranged will make any room look more streamlined.

4. Line up, Line up!

With your white walls you should already feel like your room is bigger already. To elongate the room even more I suggest using striped wallpaper. This adds height to the room and expands the sense of space.
Or just like vertical stripes on your clothes, invest in a striped rug and that will make the room appear longer – make sure you orient the stripes to go the length of the room that is the longest for optimal effect.

5. Get Your Legs Out!

Low furniture that is also “leggy” will allow light to flow over, under and around the room. Glass pieces are in style right now, they can provided an added function of not taking up too much visual space. Instead of a sofa with a skirt or boxy chairs, there are bigger pieces you can buy with exposed legs which are perfect for a small space.

6. Focus, Focus.

Get yourself a Focal point… Hanging a piece of art or photography on the white walls will give your new minimal room a theme and help you pull the whole look together. Don’t be afraid to be bold, get yourself a dramatic piece for that statement.

Take advantage of natural light as much as you can. The natural light opens up the space and makes it light and airy.
