6 Hot Interior Trends

6 Hot Interior Trends

Hot Interior Trends…. To keep you there or help you sell.

6 hot interior trends (9)

It’s a funny time of year, spring is around the corner but not here just yet. But in the property market it’s the start of our favourite time! Spring = houses on the market.

There’s something in the air every year around Easter, people decide it’s time for something ‘new’ and whilst people like me hope that means a new house all together I thought I would talk about some interior trends that would either help you sell your home or make your happier to stay there.

The thing with interiors is that it’s so personal, what I love may be awful in someone else eyes and vice versa but having just completed our new Cardiff offices I’ve done a ton of research into design trends and found out a bit about what works and what doesn’t. I’d like to share that with you…..

1. Outside Inside

Such a popular look at the moment, and so simple to achieve. Some tall and lovely green plants scattered around the place. Little succulents and even airplants look great scattered around or bunched together.

2. Open Shelved Kitchens

If you’re thinking of changing your kitchen there’s arguably only one look to go for right now… open shelved and Scandinavian (Skandi). All the designers are using these much more open kitchen units as a way of displaying stuff, pasta and rice in big jars, mix and match chopping boards and plants galore. From a selling perspective this look feels inviting and fresh but if you’re planning on staying put this look prevents you from being a hoarder and can be achieved reasonably cheaply. Think Ikea style…

3. Copper

Think beaten copper light fitting in kitchens, sprayed copper vases, small terrariums (little glass greenhouses for plants) or some cheap and cheerful copper cot hooks used to hang things from. We recently bought some online for £3 each!

4. Concrete

Is a big trend in home accessories right now, the cool kids are laying polished concrete floors but it just feels too hard to me and is no use at all if you have little ones. Why not just add some small concrete bits, a couple of concrete planters outside look great especially with some lovely plants from No21 in Aber. They’ll last forever and are just a small nod to a big trend.

5. White Walls

A huge trend of the past few years has been light grey and white walls and I understand they’re not very forgiving of mucky little mitts but there are paint finishes that can help you with that. A white or very light plain is just that…. Very light… from an agents perspective it’s the ideal colour to photograph, never looks busy or cluttered and always looks cool. Maybe time to ditch the wall paper in favour of something more simple – buyers love simple. Hallways and stairwells especially benefit for a white make over.

6. Untreated Walls

Think bare brick walls (like the ones in our offices) and if you don’t have original bricks to uncover then fake it. Chose one statement wall in your home and brick over the top of it. A good builder will have it done in a couple of days or if you’re handy you could do it yourself (just be careful- you don’t want bricks landing on your head – might be best to get a professional)
